A former top high school recruit, Isaiah Todd was part of the revolutionary G-League Ignite roster, and came off the bench for most of the season. Overall:

Isaiah Todd showed a lot of strong flashes of being a high-upside play in the later portion of the draft during his time in the G-League bubble in Orlando. The most impressive thing that stood out in the bubble for Todd was his combination of size, athleticism & shot creation. As a power forward, the ability to size-up defenders, like he did a few times, is a coveted trait and generally indicates high offensive upside. The areas that may limit Todd’s ability to hit his high ceiling are his decision making, finishing ability, and defensive upside. Todd struggled against double teams, particularly in the post, where he panicked and either got stripped of the ball or telegraphed his pass to the defense. As a finisher, Todd has the athleticism to dunk over defenders, but often opted for layups in traffic. Defensively, Todd is a coin-toss. On one hand, Todd has the lateral quickness, size, and overall athleticism to defend in space and switch onto smaller players, but on the other hand, the G-League is hard to project team defense, and Todd sometimes struggled to guard in isolation. Defense will be Todd’s swing skill at the next level, and should determine his future success in the NBA.

Similar to: John Collins, Marcus Morris, Lauri Markkanen, Josh Smith

Projected draft range: 25-50

Expected role: Rotation player with self-creation ability and versatile shooting portfolio, being able to hit shots on the move, around screens, catch-and-shoot, and off the dribble. Early in his career he is likely to be a backup, but if the combination of his offensive skillset comes together, he should safely be a starter in the league.

Unplayable if: Defense, playmaking, and finishing struggles all turn negative in the NBA. Todd does have some boom-or-bust to him, and going 0/3 in these 3 swing skills would be detrimental to his NBA career.

Exceeds expectations if: Shooting translates with versatile shooting ability, self-creation in spurts works, and he learns to finish above the rim more frequently in traffic. Defense also comes along, and is able to be a near-neutral defensive player for a winning team.

Best fits:

  • Brooklyn Nets
  • Oklahoma City Thunder
  • New Orleans Pelicans
  • Orlando Magic
  • Boston Celtics
