Scouting Report: Killian Tillie

Scouting Reports

Killian Tillie is a sophomore power forward from Gonzaga. He’s improved his production in double the minutes from his freshman season, partially due to Zach Collins going to the NBA. Here’s my scouting report on Killian Tillie:

Height/Weight: 6’10/200

Position: PF

College: Gonzaga

Tools: IQ, floor-stretching

Pros:

  • Adequate lateral quickness
  • High motor
  • Good feel for the game/ fundementals- high IQ
  • Very good set jump shot
  • Playmaking upside- good vision
  • Great timing on shot blocking
  • Quick roll man in P&R
  • Excellent in DHO’s

Cons:

  • Needs to add strength and be more physical
  • Often gets into foul trouble
  • Limited athlete

Summary:

While there’s not one thing that Tillie does at an elite level, he doesn’t do much wrong. He can play within himself and knows his role, and should be able to fit in easily with almost any system. Tillie rarely makes mistakes and rarely has mental lapses. Tillie is a classic jack of all trades, master of none type of guy. He can put the ball on the floor and not be a liability, he can thrive in the P&R, and can stretch the floor. Gonzaga has seen a surge in recent years of big men that can stretch the floor, and Tillie is the next in line. His lack of strength and lack of physicality hurt him on the glass, and his upside may be limited due to his lack of high level athleticism. Tillie can fit in with nearly every team due to his versatile playstyle and ability to play many roles, which is perfect for the modern NBA.

NBA Comparison: Mike Muscala or DeJuan Blair with a jump shot

Projected draft range: Mid/Late 2nd round to undrafted

Fit with the Mavericks:

Tillie would fit well with the Mavericks because of his easily coachable traits. Similar to DeJuan Blair in his year with Dallas, where he played a vital role on a playoff team, Rick Carlisle could use Tillie off the bench in limited minutes as a playmaker. His threat of shooting would help space the floor and compliment his teammates. We’ve seen a player like Tillie work with Rick Carlisle, so the signs of Tillie succeeding in Dallas are there.
