Overall:
Tyrell Terry is one of the highest upside guards in the 2020 NBA Draft. As an electric scorer with the ability to play both lead-guard and off-ball as a spot up threat, Terry has incredible upside to be a top-tier shooter in the league. His ability shoot quickly off the catch is unmatched in the class, and is arguably his best shooting strength. He is also incredibly quick to both shoot and to recognize the play coming around screens, making him unpredictable to defenders. Terry also has a clean jump shot off the dribble, which gives him a major advantage given his general quickness, which can also throw defenders off balance.
As a playmaker, Terry needs to improve his risk-taking judgement, which is likely to naturally progress as he matures with age. Although he needs to add strength, Terry puts excellent velocity on his passes and has an advanced ability to thread the needle, which should only improve in the NBA with better spacing and as he matures. While Terry will likely struggle as a finisher as he continues to add weight, he should be able to deceive defenders and beat defenses with the drive & kick.
Defensively, Terry is intelligent and can read passing lanes. However, with his negative wingspan and current frame, Terry will be bullied as an on-ball defender and will have to be hidden.

Fit With Mavs:
Tyrell Terry should fit well with Rick Carlisle and the Mavericks roster due to his IQ, shooting, and offensive versatility. While his defense is far from satisfactory from an evaluation standpoint, Mavs fans should be confident in Rick Carlisle’s ability to hide Terry’s defensive shortcomings. With Terry’s work ethic and physical maturity, the Mavs may have found a hidden gem at 31.
