A four year star at Davidson, Kellan Grady played a meaningful role as a fifth year senior at Kentucky. As a super senior, Grady averaged 11.4 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 1.3 APG, 0.8 SPG, and 0.8 TOPG on shooting splits of 45/42/74. Below is his full scouting report:

Wingspan/ standing reach: 6’8/8’5
Hand size: 10 ¼
Position: SG
Pre-Draft Team: Kentucky
Tools: Shooting, off-ball movement
Pros:
- Excellent finisher at the rim; takes smart shots at the rim exclusively
- Great spot-up shooter
- Plus shooter on the move
- Quick jumper
- Moves well off-ball
- Intelligent defender
- Generally mistake-free
- Massive hands and overall good frame
Cons:
- Lacks separation ability in first step
- Unconventional jump shot form
- Stalls his movement on his jumper in his base
- Doesn’t get downhill much as a ball-handler
- Limited athlete
- Simple playmaker that doesn’t make advanced reads
Summary:
Kellan Grady is a pure shooter who can hit movement threes, standstill 3s, and hit from limitless range. He can come off screens quickly, he moves well off-ball, and with good form and good shot selection, no coach has to worry about pulling his hair out when Grady shoots. Grady will be a pure off-ball player at the next level, due to a lack of creation ability in both poor speed with the ball and a lack of burst + dribble moves. While Grady is a shooting specialist, his versatility as a shooter might give him a chance in the league, even if it is just on 10-day contracts to impress, or a two-way contract in the G League.
Defensively, while Grady lacks the length and athleticism to make a popping difference, he won’t get lost and has good timing to contest jump shots. His intelligence on the defensive end might be a saving grace for him not to be seen as a massively negative defender. He still will have to avoid getting switched onto star offensive players, but could hold his own against last options for opposing teams. He knows his strengths and weaknesses as a defender, which could help his defensive mentality.
Look for Grady to get a two-way contract as a pure shooter that could be used as a shooting specialist down the line at the end of a rotation. With a lightning fast release, he will get looks, but will be limited in what contract he receives because of him already 25 on opening night. Grady could do well in the G League and earn minutes in a potential repeat of this last Covid season.
