Izaiah Brockington is a score-first guard with unlimited energy, floor vision, and ability to create space. As a scorer, Brockington loves shooting off the dribble, but needs to get better at shooting on spot-up attempts to survive at the next level. A big knock on Brockington is that his size does not stand out, and his score-first mentality may be seen as being a chucker that won’t fit in the modern NBA.
In order to overcome that narrative, Brockington must thrive in a low-usage role as a scorer as needed, and grow as a playmaker and defender. With good vision, Brockington has the tools to be a good playmaker alongside a more traditional point guard that can also play off-ball. Brockington rarely makes advanced reads on the fly, which limits his ability to play true point guard. At 6’4, this makes him a true shooting guard, and a bit of a tweener.
Defensively, Brockington has the athleticism and overall defensive intensity to stick with players on the drive and be an impactful defender. However, with a lack of length, his impact on closeouts of jump shots is limited, making him easy to be a victim of ‘good defense, better offense’. Because of his length/size, he is likely limited to exclusively guarding point guards.
