Kyler Edwards is an intelligent player with great physical measurements, good feel for the game, defensive upside, and potential to thrive off-ball in a minimal role.
With long arms, quick rotations defensively, and strong rebounding ability for a guard, Edwards should hold his own defensively against both guard slots, and maybe even small forwards. Edwards has a great mentality on defense, and doesn’t commit many fouls. This should be a translatable skill to the next level right away.
Offensively, Edwards can play the combo guard role well. He can be trusted with the ball in his hands with a 2:1 assist:turnover ratio, and makes good reads out of the pick & roll.
However, the biggest concern for Edwards is efficiency, especially as a shooter. Edwards never shot more than 41% from the field, but shot 36% from 3 across 4 years. The best case to counter these efficiency woes is for him to be primarily an off-ball scorer with ball-handling duties as his role as a backup with minimal volume, to maximize his shooting ability. He can shoot over defenses, but is better at doing so on spot-ups. With a high jump and high release, Edwards will need to refine his light hitch in his jumper to maximize his shooting ability at the next level.
Being 23 already with poor efficiency numbers, Edwards will need to find a niche in a low-volume role, which probably stems from shooting and defense.
