After withdrawing from the 2021 draft, Gui Santos had a breakout season in the Brazilian league. On the year, Santos averaged 10.5 PPG, 5 RPG, 2.2 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.8 BPG, and 1.9 TOPG on shooting splits of 45/33//73. Below is his full scouting report:
Name: Gui Santos

Wingspan/ standing reach: ~7’1/N/A
Hand size: N/A
Position: SG
Pre-Draft team: Minas (Brazil)
Tools: Length, creation + size
Pros:

- Potential playmaking ability on the wing
- Projectable jump shot with good form and solid release point
- Good go-to stepback jump shot
- Good rebounder
- Upside to create out of P&R
- Long arms
Cons:
- Struggles defending drives
- Can be often out of stance defensively
- Must get more consistent as a shooter, especially as a spot-up shooter
- Needs to tighten handle a bit more
- Not very explosive, especially out of self-creation
- Needs to get better at finishing at the rim
- Must reduce turnovers
Summary:
Gui Santos is a raw jumbo-creator with the ability to score as a jump shooter and run pick & rolls with good size, but lacking as a defender and athlete. The hope with Santos is that he can put together his raw skill-set and turn it into becoming a useful mismatch creator that can be trusted with the ball in his hands. He will need to become a better defender with more effort given his physical tools, but the play on Santos is purely upside at 20 on draft night.
Gui Santos will need a year before coming over to the NBA in order to continue refining his game at such a young age. As he develops and speeds up his jump shot over defenders and adds more moves to his arsenal as a creator, he will become more NBA ready. He is still raw, so teams must be patient, but can fall in love with a good frame and overall tools (dribble, pass, shoot) to gamble on developing.
