Summary:

Mojave King will likely play an off-ball role in the NBA, due to limited creation and his best games with the G League Ignite coming as an off-ball threat or from transition scoring. With inconsistent shooting splits, King has to prove to teams in the pre-draft process that his jump shot can develop quickly, and that the free throw percentage is more believable than his 3 point percentage.

With a quick release and mostly fluid form, King still suffers from inconsistencies on his shot, often missing so badly that he barely grazes the rim. Another scoring concern for Mojave King is his lack of on-ball creation ability with minimal creation for others. He is both a simple ball-handler in terms of self-creation moves without much change of direction that throws the defenses off, and he lacks much creativity as a passer. While he is quick to recognize the right play as a ball-handler and generally isn’t a liability in terms of decision-making, he is also unlikely to make the advanced read often.

The biggest thing Mojave King can continue to do is add strength while working on his jump shot. Defensively, Mojave King does a great job not allowing offensive players to get to their spots easily, but can get bumped off his final spot, negating his hard work early in the play. Being able to close plays defensively will take him another level on the defensive end, where he is already promising at. Offensively, adding strength will allow for him to more easily take advantage of his explosiveness and to become a better finisher at the rim, particularly through contact.

Similar to: Anthony Gill, Kelly Oubre with better feel, Stanley Johnson

Projected draft range: 40-undrafted

Expected role: Two-way, intelligent wing that could profile as the prototypical 3&D wing.

Unplayable if: Jump shooting doesn’t develop, which would severely limit his offense.

Exceeds expectations if: Ball handling improves enough to become a trusted creator, and jump shooting inconsistencies get shaken off as he gets more reps in the NBA. Additionally, if he can take another jump from his already good defense to an elite defender, his NBA upside gets noticeably higher, especially if he is able to thrive as an off-ball player.
