A two-time All-MWC member, and MWC All-Defense, Orlando Robinson had a decorated three seasons at Fresno State. As a junior, Robinson averaged 19.4 PPG, 8.4 RPG, 3 APG, 1 SPG, 1.2 BPG, and 2.5 TOPG on shooting splits of 48/35/72. Below is his full scouting report:
Name: Orlando Robinson
Height/Weight: 6’11/244
Wingspan/ standing reach: 7’4/9’3
Hand size: 10
Position: Center
Pre-Draft team: Fresno State
Tools: Floor-stretching ability, frame
Pros:
- Ability to stretch the floor
- Quick jump shot
- Can handle the ball in flashes
- Good rebounder
- Good post playmaker
- Long arms and NBA ready body
- Comfortable finishing with both hands
- Potential as a weak-side help defender
Cons:
- A bit heavy footed defensively
- Mild athlete; doesn’t blow by guys on drives
- Not explosive getting to the rim
- Base can sometimes be a bit wonky
- Way too posted-oriented offensively
Summary:
A somewhat old school big with the way he lives in the post and is relatively weak in mobility, Orlando Robinson provides offensive perimeter skills such as perimeter shot creation, a quick jumper that should translate against NBA length, and playmaking potential. The mobility concerns could force him to be played off the floor, especially in high pressure games. While his length and timing allow him to make up for getting beat off the first step, in the NBA that may not translate. The best defensive spot for him is at the help-side defense spot, with minimal perimeter responsibilities.
Offensively, how he adapts his skillset to the NBA without post-ups throughout the game will be telling in how he translates to the NBA. He wasn’t a great finisher at the rim, and doesn’t explode towards the rim. He will have to become a great shooter to truly stick in an NBA rotation because of his defensive liabilities and his limited 2 point scoring.
Similar to: Charles Bassey
Projected draft range: 40-undrafted
Expected role: Stretch big man with floor-stretching ability
Unplayable if: Lack of athleticism and inconsistent mobility make him unplayable on defense. Additionally, if his shot is inconsistent and off, his impact is minimal offensively.
Exceeds expectations if: His role translates out of a post-centric responsibility, and turns into a successful finisher, and length limits some defensive shortcomings.
