Matej Rudan Scouting Report

Scouting Reports

As part of the alumni group of the Adidas Next Generation Tournament (ANGT) and now member of Serbian powerhouse Mega, Matej Rudan has had NBA scouts following his path for several years. Rudan ended up going undrafted, but still will be closely monitored in the coming years. This year with Mega, Rudan averaged 13.1 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 1.4 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.7 BPG, and 1.4 TOPG on splits of 58/38/67 splits. Below is his full scouting report:

Hand size: N/A

Position: PF

Pre-Draft team: Mega

Tools: Finishing, athleticism

Pros:

  • Incredibly coordinated athlete; fast twitch in motions, functionally helping him rise up at the rim quickly and stay on balanced, making him hard to strip
  • Good athlete
  • Fast twitch athlete, especially near the rim
  • Has good court vision

Cons:

  • Needs to iron out release; shoots on the way down and slow, 2 motion release
  • Jumper is inconsistent
  • Needs to learn how to play team defense consistently
  • Struggles on switches defensively

Summary:

Matej Rudan is a rim runner that may find himself as a tweener given his size + lack of shooting. While he was once a successful shooter for his generation, his jump shot has not proven enough consistency to be the offensive threat he needs to be to stick in the NBA. Look for Rudan to stick overseas for a couple years before getting in the mix for the NBA. Beyond his jumper, teams worry about his defense, concerned that he may get played off the court because of limited mobility. He simply does not have enough size to justify these risks even with outstanding finishing ability, so he will be monitored in future years by NBA teams to see how he progresses.

Expected role: Rim runner that thrives on finishing at the rim at any tempo

Unplayable if: Shot never comes along, plus defensive woes hold him off the floor in key situations.

Exceeds expectations if: Jumper and mobility improve.
